Russian President Vladimir Putin said the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing acts as a stabilizing force in global politics.

"The Russia-China strategic partnership acts as a stabilising force. As the two leading powers in Eurasia, we cannot remain indifferent to the challenges and threats facing our continent and the wider world," Putin said.

In an interview with Xinhua on the eve of his four-day visit to China to attend the SCO Summit, the Russian leader spoke highly of the cooperation between Russia and China in multilateral formats, saying such cooperation is a key pillar of bilateral relations and plays a major role in global affairs.

According to him, Moscow and Beijing share broad common interests and strikingly similar views on fundamental questions.

"We are looking in the same direction in terms of promoting a fair, multipolar world order based on the countries of the global majority," Putin said.

Vladimir Putin will pay a visit to China at the invitation of President of the PRC Xi Jinping from August 31 to September 3.
