Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed cautious optimism toward U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip, calling it “light at the end of the tunnel”.
According to him, Trump’s initiatives “may bring some light at the end of the tunnel.”
The head of state reiterated that a Palestinian state is the cornerstone of any long-term settlement.
"If all the positive things I mentioned happen, then it will certainly be a breakthrough. And the breakthrough could be quite positive. The creation of a Palestinian state is a key element of the overall settlement,” Putin said.
Earlier, the U.S. president unveiled "comprehensive plan" to resolve the Gaza conflict, consisting of 20 points. The plan explicitly states that Hamas will not be allowed to return to power in the Strip.
