U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States is ready to come to the rescue of peaceful protesters in Iran, "if the practice of killing them continues".
"If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go," Trump said.
Protests broke out in Tehran on December 29 due to a sharp depreciation in the Iranian rial.
