Türkiye has expressed its intention to explore Syria's offshore maritime zone. The two countries plan to reach an agreement by 2026 to assess the energy potential of the Syrian coastline, according to Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
"We plan to sign a specific shelf agreement in 2026. After that, we can conduct seismic surveys to understand the potential of this are",
Alparslan Bayraktar said.
The minister noted that Ankara and Damascus already have a framework for energy cooperation. A dedicated agreement on the continental shelf would further develop this partnership.
According to Bayraktar, the current plans are limited to exploration and will not lead to production activities.
