UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres renewed his plea for the “immediate” and “unconditional” release of hostages held in Gaza in a statement released to mark two years since Hamas’ October 7 attack.
"Release the hostages, unconditionally and immediately. End the suffering for all," Guterres said.
He called on all combatants to end the fighting in Gaza, Israel and the wider region.
"Stop making civilians pay with their lives and their futures," Guterres said.
The UN Secretary-General noted that U.S. President Donald Trump's recent proposal "presents an opportunity that must be seized to bring this tragic conflict to an end."
According to him, the UN remains unwavering in its commitment to support a lasting peace.
