Damascus and Tel Aviv continue negotiations concerning security in southern Syria. Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa expressed optimism that the talks could yield positive results.

Al-Sharaa emphasized that the primary objective is stabilizing the situation within Syria, clarifying that neither a peace agreement nor full diplomatic normalization with Israel is currently under discussion.

The Syrian official also denied rumors of US pressure to expedite an agreement with Israel.

Let us remind you that Syrian-Israeli talks are scheduled for September 18 in Baku. US diplomatic envoy Tom Barrack will participate in the consultations. Reports indicate Israel will present a peace proposal featuring demilitarized zones south of Damascus, specifically in As-Suwayda Province.
