The European Union is preparing to suspend its visa-free regime with Georgia. High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas announced that a partial suspension will take effect in November.

In November, certain categories of Georgian citizens will no longer be able to enter Europe without a visa. The High Representative announced the partial suspension of the visa-waiver agreement with Georgia.

"The rule of law and human rights situation continues to deteriorate in Georgia... With the new regulation on visas entering into force in November, this will give us the opportunity to cancel the visa free regime for some groups," Kaja Kallas said.

The EU's top diplomat emphasized that personal attacks against European ambassadors are unacceptable and have no place in diplomacy and clarified that it is impossible to consider that being a candidate to become European Union members will be the case with these measures.
