During his speech at the SCO summit in Tianjin, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the situation with the shallowing of the Caspian Sea as deplorable.

"I would like to draw your attention to a very delicate but serious topic. This is a deplorable situation around the Caspian Sea",

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

He noted that the situation with the shallowing of the Caspian Sea is close to an environmental catastrophe.

In this regard, the Kazakh leader proposed the establishment of a Center for the Analysis of Water Problems in Astana under the auspices of the SCO.

Let us recall that over the past 30 years, the maximum water level in the Caspian Sea was recorded in 1994, with the most severe drop occurring between 2020 and 2025. Forecasts indicate a potential 25 cm further decrease.
