The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly backed a resolution reviving a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

The declaration, which outlines “tangible, timebound, and irreversible steps” towards a two-state solution, was adopted by 142 votes in favour, 10 against and 12 abstentions.

The declaration condemns the attacks against Israel by Palestinian militants Hamas on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza. It also condemns the attacks by Israel against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza.

It was stressed that the declaration is the result of an international conference at the U.N. in July.
