Azerbaijan's Independence Day celebrated in Moscow

Independence Day in Azerbaijan is celebrated on May 28. On this day, 106 years ago, in 1918, the independence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed. Azerbaijan became the first parliamentary republic in the Muslim East.

The Declaration of Independence, which was signed on the same day in the hall of the former Palace of the Governor of the Caucasus in Tiflis, approved the transfer of sovereign rights to all peoples of the ADR. All citizens of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, men and women, of any nationality, faith and social status received the same civil and political rights.

Later, the independence of Azerbaijan was recognized internationally, during the Paris Peace Conference in January 1920.
