Georgia's electricity imports from Russia increased almost 42 times in January of this year, according to data from the National Statistics Service of Georgia.
The value of electricity supplies from Russia in January reached $7.95 million - 41.9 times higher than in January 2025 and 1.7 times higher than in December 2025. These figures mark the highest monthly import volumes in the past four years of bilateral trade. The last comparable level was recorded in March 2022, when imports totalled $8.4 million.
For the whole of 2025, Russia supplied Georgia with electricity worth $11.5 million, an 8% decrease compared to 2024.
In addition to Russian supplies, Georgia also imported electricity from Türkiye for the first time since 2021, totalling $10.2 million. Imports from Armenia amounted to $4 million, and from Azerbaijan - $280,000.
