Hungary and Slovakia have agreed to file a joint lawsuit in the European Union's Court of Justice against the bloc's leadership over its plan to phase out Russian energy imports by early 2028. The announcement was made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

According to Szijjártó, representatives of Hungary and Slovakia have already completed legal preparations to file a lawsuit in the Court of Justice of the EU against the EU leadership.

"The legal work is largely complete, and as soon as the decision is officially announced, we will have the legal opportunity to file a lawsuit. We will do so as soon as it is legally possible",

 Péter Szijjártó said.

He argued that the European Commission's plan to abandon Russian energy violates fundamental EU law.

"The Framework Treaty clearly states that the formation of national energy balances is the responsibility of the states themselves",

the minister added.

The Hungarian Minister emphasized that the EU initiative threatens Budapest's energy security.
