Ilham Aliyev: return of residents to Khankendi to begin in September

This autumn, former internally displaced persons will begin to return to Khankendi, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said yesterday during a meeting with residents who relocated to Khojaly.

“Resettlement to Khankendi will begin in September. The first to move will be students and their teachers. Karabakh University will start its activities," Ilham Aliyev said.

Transport accessibility of Khankendi will be improved, the railway line will be repaired, the road will be expanded.

"A project is being prepared for the restoration, that is, the reconstruction of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway...From here - from Khankendi, Khojaly, it will be possible to travel in any direction by railway. Both to Baku and westward to Ganja. Thus, travel will be comfortable," Ilham Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani president also announced the expansion of the Aghdam-Askeran-Khankendi road, now it will be a four-lane road.
