The Holy See confirmed Pope Leo XIV will travel to Türkiye at the end of November, marking his inaugural apostolic visit abroad.
"Accepting the invitation of the head of state and the country's ecclesiastical authorities, Pope Leo XIV will undertake an apostolic journey to Türkiye from November 27 to 30, 2025, which will include a pilgrimage to Iznik on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea",
Matteo Bruni, head of the Holy See press service reported.
The Pope will subsequently visit Lebanon from November 30 to December 2 at official invitation. The program of the visit will be announced later.
Leo XIV has been the head of the Roman Catholic Church since May 8, 2025.
