Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will become its candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) will nominate incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as its candidate in the country's upcoming presidential election, party spokesman Ömer Çelik announced.
"From our party's perspective, our president, Mr. Erdoğan, is the presidential candidate in the upcoming elections,”

Previously, the party leadership favored holding the vote in the spring of 2028 to stabilize the economy, while senior presidential adviser Mehmet Üçum considered shifting of the date to April 16, 2028, through an early dissolution of parliament. Erdoğan himself, however, stated that the elections should be held on the approved date of May 2028.
