Botaş plant burns near Istanbul

A fire has broken out at an underground natural gas storage facility near Istanbul, according to Turkish media.

Reports indicate the blaze started at the Botaş plant, which has an underground storage capacity of approximately 4.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The facility is located in Istanbul's Silivri district.

 

The gas supply to the plant has been shut off. Dozens of firefighting and rescue teams are working to contain the fire, and nearby areas have been evacuated as a precaution.
