Iranian citizens are banned from entering the United Arab Emirates or making connections there, the largest UAE airline, Emirates, announced to passengers.

Dubai-based carrier Emirates said that Iranian nationals aren't allowed to enter and transit through the Gulf state, The Wall Street Journal reported.

"Nationals of Iran are not allowed to enter and transit," the airline announced on its website in the "Travelling to United Arab Emirates" section.

The airline noted that the ban does not apply to holders of the so-called UAE "golden visa": a residence permit valid for 5-10 years issued to major investors and entrepreneurs.

The airline does not disclose the reason for the decision.

The U.S. and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were hit. Iran’s IRGC launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and U.S. military facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
