Republic Day celebrations in Shymkent, located in southern Kazakhstan, were marred by a fire, according to the city's Emergency Situations Department.
The fire began when pyrotechnics launched during Saturday evening's festivities ignited surrounding dry grass.
Firefighting personnel contained the blaze across 250 square meters of grassland. Eighteen firefighters battled the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire, the department noted.
