Georgia launches Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project has been practically completed and work is currently underway to put it into operation, according to reports from Georgia.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is practically complete, Director General of Georgian Railway Lasha Abashidze said.

He said the process of preparing the necessary documents for commissioning and handover is currently underway.

Assessing the significance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, Abashidze said it is of great importance for Georgia, as it directly connects the country with Turkey, attracting additional cargo flows in the direction of Georgia.

Furthermore, the Director General of Georgian Railway noted that increase in container transportation from China through the corridor is about 40-50%. He added they expect further growth in the coming years.
