Russia is ready to support mediation efforts to end the conflict against Iran and to help maintain stability in the Middle East if requested, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov said.

"If requested, Russia is ready to support mediation efforts both to end the aggression against Iran and more broadly to maintain stability in the Middle East, including within the framework of the updated security concept in the Persian Gulf that we are promoting," Alimov said.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire reached with Iran on the night of June 18 was no longer in effect. Since July 8, the U.S. military has carried out several attacks on Iran.  Tehran responded with strikes on U.S. bases in several Middle Eastern countries, closed the Strait of Hormuz, and accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement.
