The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry arrived in Ankara. There, he will meet with his Turkish counterpart and discuss a number of pressing issues, including the grain agreement and bilateral relations between Russia and Türkiye.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Ankara on a working visit on the evening of April 6.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry will stay in Türkiye for two days. The visit is made at the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry informed that the agenda of the working meeting of ministers will include the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Türkiye, the grain deal, the crises in Ukraine and Syria, and the situation in the South Caucasus.

Lavrov and Çavuşoğlu will also discuss economic and energy cooperation between the two countries, the safety of Russian holidaymakers in Turkish resorts and other issues of mutual interest.

According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, discussing the possibility of prolonging the Black Sea initiative is one of the priorities of the meeting. The Turkish side is interested in the grain export deal, the agreement on which was signed on July 22 last year, to be valid for as long as possible. The deal has been extended several times, most recently in mid-March, with Russia only agreeing to a 60-day extension.
