The leading telecommunications companies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan — Kazakhtelecom and Azertelecom — will invest over $50 million in laying a fiber-optic line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
According to the Minister of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhaslan Madiev, the laying of the communication line will be 370 km, and the tender to select a contractor for the design is now being completed.
The project to lay a cable line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea is part of the Digital Silk Road project. It involves the transfer of large amounts of data between Europe and Asia.
The line will run from Aktau to Sumgayit. Bandwidth can reach 400 Tbit/s. All construction work will be completed in 2025.
