UN responds to terrorist attacks in Dagestan

Elizabeth Throssell, an employee of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, responded to the terrorist attack in Makhachkala and Derbent.

Throssell deplored the attacks on churches, synagogues and a police post, which left 19 people dead.

She called for those responsible to be held accountable for their crimes. Throssell also said that the authorities should encourage interethnic and interfaith harmony.

Terrorist attacks in Dagestan
On June 23, terrorists attacked two Dagestan cities: Makhachkala and Derbent. Militants attacked synagogues, churches, and police posts.

The Head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, announced the elimination of 6 terrorists. 19 people died at the hands of militants. Three days of mourning have been declared in Dagestan.
