On Tuesday, July 16, a failure occurred at the Rostov nuclear power plant (NPP), leaving several million residents of southern Russia without electricity. The Russian Ministry of Energy informs about this on its Telegram channel.

In particular, power supply has now been interrupted in Anapa, Armavir, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Novorossiysk and a number of other settlements.

"Due to a failure in the operation of generating equipment at the Rostov NPP, in conditions of increased loads on the power system, in order to maintain the stability of the power system, temporary schedules for limiting consumption by 1.5 GW were introduced in the power system of the South of Russia",

the Ministry's press service said.

Restoration work is underway.
