Azerbaijan has secured the 60th spot in the Global Firepower ranking for 2026, taking the lead in the South Caucasus region when it comes to military might.

Armenia fell out of the top 100, dropping from 91st to 101st place, Georgia moved down from 94th to 95th place in 2026, according to the Global Firepower ranking.

Military experts have assessed Azerbaijan’s land forces as having notable potential. For example, with 1,354 tanks, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces rank 14th globally. In self-propelled artillery, with 135 systems, Azerbaijan surpasses Germany and holds 29th place worldwide. In multiple rocket launchers, Azerbaijan's army ranks 9th globally, placing it among the world’s top ten with nearly 700 rocket launcher systems.

Armenia’s army is within the global top 40 for attack helicopters (20) and self-propelled artillery (104). Georgia’s armed forces, while lacking clearly pronounced strengths, also rank within the world’s top 50 for attack helicopter fleets and self-propelled artillery.

Russia ranks second among 145 countries. The United States holds first place, while China is third. India and South Korea complete the top five, and France, Japan, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Italy round out the top ten.

In the ranking published in late 2025, Russia also held the second spot.
