Syria may abandon its claim to the Golan Heights if Tel Aviv officially recognizes its new government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Damascus is not demanding that Israel return the Golan Heights that it captured in 1967 in current talks on a peace agreement, provided that Israel formally recognizes Ahmed al-Sharaa as the head of the new Syrian administration, the Times of Israel reported, citing Lebanese media sources.

Furthermore, the media reports indicate that Syria is demanding the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the south of the country, where they have been stationed since January of this year. Damascus is also insisting on security guarantees for the border region between Jordan, Syria, and Israel.

"In the current peace agreement talks, Syria is not demanding that Israel return the parts of the Golan Heights it captured in 1967... Syria is calling for clearly defined security measures in the south of the country and in the border triangle between Jordan, Syria, and Israel, as well as for U.S. support for Syria," the Times of Israel reports.

It was previously revealed that indirect talks are underway between Damascus and Tel Aviv with the aim of returning to the terms of the 1974 agreement. Syrian-Israeli relations have remained tense since 1967 due to the disputed status of the Golan Heights territory.
