Iran has sentenced nuclear scientist Amirreza Jalilian, who worked for the IAEA as a researcher, to 10 years in prison.

Media reports indicate the conviction was for espionage activities conducted on behalf of UK intelligence services (MI6).

The sentencing follows recent cases involving French citizens imprisoned in Iran for espionage. The 40-year-old French citizen and her 72-year-old compatriot were also accused of attempting to overthrow the government.
