Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has criticized the European Commission's response to revolutionary statements made by the opposition.
He accused the EC's spokesperson, Anitta Hipper, of supporting the intentions of the "United National Movement" party to stage a rebellion.
On his social media page, Papuashvili called Brussels's support for opposition sentiments ahead of the elections a "disgrace". This came after the EU spokesperson Anitta Hipper expressed approval of the plans by the UNM party to disrupt the October 4th voting and instigate an uprising.
"On October 4, parallel to the elections, the UNM announced a violent action - the disruption of the elections, which the European Commission's press secretary expressed solidarity with. What could be more shameful for Brussels?!" Papuashvili said.
Anitta Hipper has repeatedly expressed solidarity with the Georgian opposition forces and supported pro-EU protests.
