Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited the Alley of Martyrs today to honor the memory of the victims of "Black January".
The head of state laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument in the Alley of Martyrs in Baku, paying tribute to the victims of the tragic events of 20 January 1990. The national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed during the ceremony.
Tuesday, 20 January, marks the 36th anniversary of the tragedy in the Azerbaijani capital, in which 147 Baku residents lost their lives. This date, known as "Black January," represents one of the most tragic yet heroic chapters in the nation's history, symbolising the struggle for independence and freedom.
