Georgia's economic growth this year has exceeded the rate of 7.3% forecast by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

The PM believes that at the rate they are going, Georgia will be able to exceed this forecast.

"Last month was also a successful one in terms of economic growth. Overall, the economy grew 8% in January-July, not only the highest result in our region, but also in the whole of Europe," Kobakhidze said.

According to him, the national currency had grown, as well as the country's forex reserves.

"The National Bank increased its forex reserves by a record $1.3 billion in March-July. Taking August into account, we can expect this to exceed $1.5 billion and hit a record by the end of the year," Kobakhidze said.
