Kobakhidze: year of challenges awaits Georgia

The Georgian authorities successfully led the effort to preserve peace in the country in 2025, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

During his appearance on the Imedis Kvira program, he remarked that the attitude toward Georgia and the Georgian people has been unfair, which is connected to Tbilisi not fulfilling the role expected by external forces.

"Preserving peace was not easy - we had to fight for it, and this effort continued successfully in 2025 as well. We see a great injustice toward Georgia and the Georgian people," Irakli Kobakhidze said.

The head of Government expressed confidence that attempts by Georgia's ill-wishers to facilitate a change of power in the country using the topic of a potential visa-free regime cancellation are doomed to fail. He clarified that this issue is still being used to maintain constant tension within the country.

"This is an absolutely artificial process, however, given that this instrument of blackmail has lost its power, I think that the European bureaucracy will remain in a pragmatic position and they will not make a decision that will ultimately upset the Georgian people," Irakli Kobakhidze said.

He also drew attention to Georgia's concern regarding the behavior of some European bureaucrats. In particular, Kobakhidze recalled a statement by the European Commission's Spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Anitta Hipper, who supported an action called "peaceful transition of power."

According to the MP, such actions negatively impact how European bureaucracy is perceived in the eyes of Georgian society.

"This is very sad and regrettable for us. Against the backdrop of our stated goal of becoming a full member of the EU, such an attitude and the situation we observe within the European bureaucracy naturally cause us serious concern," Irakli Kobakhidze said.
