The exhibition "White Gold. Cotton in the Art of the Soviet East" opened at the Museum of the East in Moscow.
The showcase examines how cotton symbolized prosperity both in producing regions like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan, and across the entire USSR. Its image was widely used by means of visual propaganda: in paintings, posters, and ceramics.
Most of the exhibits belong to the collection of the Oriental Museum, with numerous artifacts not displayed publicly for decades.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until November 30, 2025.
