Azerbaijani Consulate General may be established in Erbil

On the sidelines of the Davos World Economic Forum, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced Azerbaijan's readiness to open a Consulate General in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between President Aliyev and Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The leaders also reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations.

They emphasized the importance of developing cooperation across all sectors, particularly in investment and trade expansion.

During the meeting, Barzani reaffirmed his interest in deepening ties with Azerbaijan. He also expressed concern over the rising military tensions and ongoing clashes in Syria.
