The Syrian Army's operation against the Kurdish coalition, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), is underway. By Saturday evening, troops entered the strategically important city of Tabqa, Raqqa province, aiming to establish state control over the Euphrates Hydroelectric Power Station and deprive the SDF of its energy source.
"Our troops entered the city of Tabqa from several directions; Kurdish SDF units are surrounded near the military airfield",
the Syrian Army Press Service reported.
Army command demanded SDF withdrawal from Euphrates' western bank, Tabqa evacuation, and non-interference with northern Syria reintegration efforts.
"We demand SDF leadership immediately honor declared commitments and cease obstructing regional stabilization initiatives",
the statement continued.
Damascus emphasized that this is the only way to stop the fighting in Raqqa.
Eight Raqqa province villages came under government control yesterday as Kurdish forces continue retreating under Syrian Army pressure.
