Sergey Lavrov and Qatari PM hold phone talks

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone conversation with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian FM expressed solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar in connection with the Israeli strike on Doha.

"The Russian Side reaffirmed its resolute condemnation of this aggressive act as a flagrant violation of international law and an unacceptable assault on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of friendly Qatar," the statement reads.

The Russian diplomat conveyed a request to express sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased Qatari citizens and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

The sides agreed to continue close coordination, including in the context of an emergency UN Security Council meeting.

Mohammed Al Thani expressed gratitude for Russia’s clear and principled stance in support of the sovereignty and independence of Qatar.
